We're All In The Same Boat

Practicing Universal Love

Jan 17, 2010

Welcome to OneLife Ministries. This site is designed to lead you prayerfully into a heart experience of Divine Presence, Who is Love. While it focuses on Christian teaching, I hope persons of varied faiths will find inspiration here. Indeed, "God" can be whatever image helps us trust in the Sacred, by whatever means Grace touches us each. Please share this ministry with others, and please return soon. There is a new offering daily. And to be placed on the daily OneLife email list, to request notifications of new writings or submit prayer requests, write to briankwilcox@yahoo.com .

Blessings,
Brian Kenneth Wilcox MDiv, MFT, PhD
Interspiritual Pastor-Teacher, Author, Workshop Leader, Spiritual Counselor, and Chaplain.

You are invited to join Brian at his fellowship group on Facebook. The group is called OneLife Ministries – An Interspiritual Contemplative Fellowship. Hope to see you there. Blessings.

After a statement against the people of Haiti, by widely known evangelical cleric Pat Robertson, claiming this week's earthquake is resultant of a curse for a bond with the devil, I offer this writing to affirm, as an interspiritual Christian and follower of the Jesus wisdom path, that all are one. I affirm we need to share the blessing and suffering of one another in nonjudgmental and kind Love, as having a common spiritual heritage, amidst differences. I speak against all forms of prejudice that fail rightly to see the other and rightly treat him or her. I speak against the religious prejudice that infiltrates much of the faith tradition of "christianity," and affirm that such exclusive faith is no longer fit for the times in which we live as a human race. Let us renounce all religious bigotry, prejudice, and totalism, in Love for all.

WISDOM SAYINGS

Whatever you would want others to to for you, do for them;
whatever you would not want others to do to you, refrain from doing.
For this is the essence of the Torah (Law) and Nebi'im (Prophets).

*Jesus. Matthew 7.1.

Regard all other's gain as your gain, and all other's loss as your loss.

*Taoism. Tai Shang Kan Yin P'ien.

SPIRITUAL TEACHING

STORY

There were two friends in a small rowboat. They reached the middle of the lake. One friend was surprised to see the other drilling a hole in the bottom of the boat. The first man screamed, “What are you doing drilling a hole in the boat?!” The second man calmly answered, “Don’t worry, it’s only under my seat.”

REFLECTIONS

We can forget
We all are in the same boat.

When reading the Gospel
I sense Jesus never met a stranger.

This man did not leave a theology
or a spiritual philosophy.

He did not start a religion
or build a big church.

He did not write a book
nor did he die having a huge group of admirers.

He left me an example of a simple and true life
and a simple and true lesson with
potential to revolutionize the world.

I am a Christian
I am to seek, always, to follow this Universal Truth:

We all have one Source, we are here to learn to love the Source.
.
We all are one people, we are here to learn to love one another.

We all can do and are to do this:
For Our Essential Nature is Love.

Prejudice is godless.

Kindness is divine.

—Brian K. Wilcox

Can I believe that the simple Message of Jesus might actually be true and workable in this complex world? Which is more important to me: religion or love? Is it possible that I sometimes live out religious faith in a way that denies the essential teaching of Christ on loving the One and all others? How might I simplify my spiritual life, so to be less likely to get distracted from the essential core of Truth, the Good News of Divine-Love? Am I, like Jesus, willing to be vulnerable before others to show the tender, yet strong, nature of Grace? As I look back over my life, who are the persons who have been most instrumental in teaching me, through their person and ways, the beauty and grace, the courage and strength, of Graciousness? What one act will I intentionally do today to say to my Creator “I Love You!”? What one act will I intentionally do today to say to someone else “I Love You!”? I can do this, I am willing, for I want to follow Jesus, who walks among all peoples as neighbor and friend.
